Born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, my love for design started in high school. After taking several entry level classes, I decided to focus on being an orthopedic surgeon and just doing design on the side. Well, boredom of sitting in classes set in and I followed my heart and hobby of creating design in all different types of mediums.
During my collegiate days, I was a hip-hop DJ at several nightclubs in Lubbock. I would design flyers here and there for club promoters but was still honing my craft and taking on projects for free to help build up some type of portfolio. After a few years I decided to quit being a DJ and seek full-time employment as a designer and started my career at the Lubbock Convention & Visitors Bureau and Lubbock Economic Development Alliance. Projects started simple and mundane but after a while I realized that if we stopped paying an advertising agency large sums of cash, we could cut costs and get more accomplished. Thus, I was part of the first in-house advertising agency for the LCVB. We created several award-winning projects including meeting and sporting facility guides to videos.
Yearning to advance my career, I left Lubbock and took the director of marketing position with Experience Arlington. I followed in the same steps as Lubbock and created an in-house agency and the first project right out of the gates was to rebrand the entire organization. This project was executed in only four months, consisted of a team that included myself and my good buddy Brad Holmes. We executed every aspect of the project, from creating the logo to making a cake for the launch party.
But these jobs have never been enough, I have always wanted to do more. In April of 2009, my best friend Thomas Kennedy and I were tired of seeing people be charged too much for good design so we founded Republic Design. Since that time Republic Design has grown to not only create and design logos, print advertisements and websites, but we now are able to host sties and maintain them as our clients continue to expand their respective companies.
Even with all that I have done, I still try to be active. Whether it be golfing, snowboarding, competing in races like Tough Mudder, I do my best to always be on the go. Travel is a big part of my life and I strive to go somewhere new every month and so far my streak is 32 months in a row! Bottom line, I’m an outgoing person that loves what he does and look forward to doing what I do for many years to come.
